Royal Splendor: Omukama Of Bunyoro Presides Over New Moon Cultural Festival

In a majestic display of tradition and cultural reverence, His Royal Majesty Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, graced the Karuziika Royal Palace with his presence to preside over the monthly New Moon Cultural festival.

Attended by a distinguished assembly including Okwir, Omupanyarwa, Omukonda, Nyamyaro keepers, Ababiito, Abaranga, Abatimbo, Head of regalia, Hereditary Abajwara Kondo, Ijuura Kondo, and select officials from the office of Omuhikirwa, the ceremony embraced the rich cultural tapestry of Bunyoro-Kitara.

The ambiance of the palace resonated with the presence of esteemed Palace Staff and hereditary keepers, including the rain maker, Royal drummers (Abakondere), the holder of the Royal Spear (Erihango), and the holder of the disciplinary stick (Orujunju). Notably, the holder of the garden rake adorned with agricultural seedlings also participated, adding a touch of agricultural symbolism to the royal affair.

The New Moon festival, a time-honored cultural tradition observed diligently by the Kings of Bunyoro-Kitara every month, unfolded with grace and regality. The ceremony encapsulated the essence of the kingdom’s customs, bringing together a harmonious convergence of tradition and the monarchy’s deep-rooted connection to the lunar cycle.
