72% Of Men Don’t Know How To Use Condoms
A recent survey conducted by the Uganda AIDS Commission has shed light on a concerning disparity in condom knowledge between men and women in the country. According to the findings, a staggering 72 percent of men lack the basic understanding of how to use condoms effectively, posing significant challenges to HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.
With Uganda’s adult HIV prevalence rate at 5.8%, the commission emphasizes the crucial role of condoms as a primary tool in preventing the spread of the virus. There is no a striking difference in HIV prevalence between genders, with 7.2% among women and 4.3% among men, highlighting the urgency for targeted interventions.
In response to these findings, the commission has called for extensive sensitization campaigns aimed at addressing the lack of condom knowledge among men. These campaigns aim not only to raise awareness but also to equip individuals with the necessary information and skills to protect themselves and their partners effectively.
As Uganda continues its efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, closing the gap in condom knowledge between genders is essential for reducing transmission rates and safeguarding public health. The commission’s efforts underscore the importance of comprehensive education and access to essential prevention tools in the fight against the epidemic.
