Equity Bank Uganda has initiated an internal investigation following suspicions of loan fraud involving some of its staff members. The probe comes after irregularities were discovered in the bank’s loan portfolio, prompting management to take swift action.
According to sources within the bank, the investigation centers on possible fraudulent activities related to loan disbursements and approvals. It is alleged that certain employees may have colluded to facilitate unauthorized loans or manipulate the loan approval process for personal gain.
In a statement issued by Equity Bank Uganda, the institution affirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and transparency. The bank emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misconduct or fraudulent behavior.
“We take allegations of fraud very seriously and are fully cooperating with relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation,” the statement read
The bank reassured its customers that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard their interests and maintain the integrity of its operations. Additionally, it urged customers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or transactions immediately.
Equity Bank Uganda has also pledged to take appropriate disciplinary action against any employees found to have engaged in fraudulent behavior, in accordance with the bank’s policies and procedures.
The outcome of the internal investigation will be closely monitored by regulatory authorities, as cases of financial fraud continue to be a major concern for the banking sector in Uganda.
