Chinese Gov’t Expresses Support for EACOP Project in Uganda

In a significant development for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project, President Xi Jinping of China has extended his support, underscoring China’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure and energy projects in the region. The endorsement came in the form of a letter addressed to President Museveni of Uganda, expressing China’s backing for the ambitious venture.

President Museveni warmly welcomed President Xi Jinping’s support, hailing it as a crucial step forward for the EACOP project. The letter also extended an invitation to Uganda’s Energy Minister to engage in further discussions in China, highlighting the importance China places on fostering cooperation in energy initiatives.

Furthermore, Ambassador Xue Bing, the Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Minister, engaged in fruitful discussions with President Museveni. The talks centered around enhancing bilateral ties between China and Uganda, as well as upcoming key events such as the Forum on Africa-China Cooperation (FOCAC) and a proposed peace conference for the Horn of Africa.
