In a recent revelation, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced that the First Lady of Uganda, Janet Museveni, has tested positive for COVID-19. The president disclosed that she had experienced a sore throat on Christmas day, prompting them to conduct a rapid coronavirus test through his X account, which initially yielded a negative result.
However, taking precautions, a sample was sent to Mbarara for a PCR test, and the results returned positive. President Museveni mentioned that the First Lady was feeling weak, with symptoms including headache and a persistent sore throat.
“On December 26, I had to carry out a test on myself to manage the situation. Fortunately, the tests came back negative by the afternoon,” stated President Museveni. He further revealed that despite close proximity and shared spaces with the First Lady, he remained negative. This raised questions about whether his previous encounter with the virus in May contributed to his apparent immunity.
The First Lady is currently in isolation at one of the residences in Rwakitura, while President Museveni continues with his scheduled programs. The president expressed optimism about her recovery, referring to her as a first-time corona warrior.
