Mary Mugasa: “Bunyoro University to be Established at Bulera PTC In Hoima”

After years of anticipation and numerous promises from President M7, Bunyoro University is finally set to become a reality, with its main campus slated to be established at Bulera PTC in Hoima. The journey to establish the university has been fraught with challenges, including land acquisition issues and failed negotiations.

Initially, President M7 had demanded 450 acres of land in Hoima District for the university, but the search for suitable land proved to be a daunting task. A one Dr. Wamaani offered 100 acres of land in Buhimba, Kikuube District, which was seen as a positive step forward. However, complications arose regarding the conditions attached to the land offer, leading to skepticism among some proponents of the university.

Amidst these challenges, the Bunyoro University Governing Council as instructed by Prime Minster Robinah Nabanja tirelessly scouted for suitable land until an agreement was reached to co-locate the university with Bulera PTC, occupying 20 acres of land as approved by the Bulera PTC Board. This decision was confirmed by the State Minister for Public Service, Hon Mary Mugasa Akiiki, a prominent Munyoro and key member of the Bunyoro University decision-making process.

The announcement of the university’s location at Bulera PTC has ignited enthusiasm for its establishment, prompting calls for potential investors to begin the process of setting up amenities such as hostels and other infrastructure conducive to a university environment. Mary Mugasa, in particular, has encouraged investors to seize this opportunity for development in the region.

With the location now finalized, plans are underway to fast-track the setup of Bunyoro University, with an expansion strategy that aims to establish presence across various districts of Bunyoro. This milestone marks a significant step forward in meeting the long-standing demand for higher education opportunities in the region.
