Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Gears Up for Historic Empango Anniversary

In a momentous meeting this afternoon, the Prime Minister of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Owek. Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi, warmly welcomed the esteemed Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi, to the heart of the kingdom. The rendezvous, rich with significance, served as a platform to exchange gratitude and discuss upcoming milestones in the kingdom’s calendar.

Hon. Amongi, with a gracious nod to Bunyoro-Kitara’s dedication to progress and heritage preservation, commended the kingdom’s pivotal role in mobilizing communities for development initiatives while cherishing cultural heritage.

A key highlight of the discussion was the forthcoming 30th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the revered Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara. Scheduled for June 11, 2024, at the majestic BKK Parliament Gardens, the celebrations promise to be a vibrant tapestry of tradition and modernity.

Preceding the grand event, a series of captivating festivities are set to unfold across the kingdom. These include an Omugo health camp in Kakumiro district on May 24th-25th, an Empango Marathon on June 8th at the BKK Parliament Gardens, where proceeds will fortify the Kakumiro Health Centre IV theatre. A Royal thanksgiving service will grace St. Peter’s Cathedral in Hoima City on June 10th, accompanied by a delectable Bunyoro Native Food Festival from June 7th to 9th at the BKK Parliament Gardens. Additionally, a Pre-commemoration music festival (Omujaato) will resonate through the vibrant streets of Buliisa district on June 10th.

Hon. Amongi, deeply moved by the kingdom’s fervor, pledged not only her attendance but also unwavering support for the festivities, underscoring the unity between government and cultural institutions in fostering national pride and cohesion.

The Minister was joined by a distinguished entourage, including the State Minister of Public Service, Hon. Mary Grace Mugasa, the Hoima City West MP, Hon. Dr. Joseph Ruyonga, the esteemed Hoima City Mayor, Hon. Brian Kaboyo, the Hoima Resident City Commissioner, Hon. Badru Mugabi, and the UPC Regional chairman, Mr. Kajura Matia, accentuating the collaborative spirit driving the kingdom’s aspirations.
